Accidentes de tráfico

The 23-year-old man who was responsible for causing a fatal crash here in Waco back in March pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and intoxication manslaughter charges on Oct. 14. He will now spend the next two decades in prison because of the poor choices that he made.

Court records show that the young defendant had been driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with an 18-year-old female passenger in the early morning hours of March 30. The defendant had been drinking alcohol and doing drugs less than a half-hour before he decided to get behind the wheel. He ran a stop sign along FM 2311 just before 3 a.m and collided with a sedan.

Riding in the Hyundai that was struck were two San Antonio residents. The male occupant was 50 and his female companion was 55. They’d been traveling eastbound along State Highway 31 in the moments before the crash occurred. The Hyundai’s occupants were killed upon impact.

A police investigation into the crash revealed that the defendant had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .17 at the time of the crash. This is more than twice the legal limit in Texas and elsewhere. The young man also had traces of methamphetamine in his urine when his specimen was tested at the hospital. Closed beer containers were found near the defendant’s SUV. He was on probation for child injury charges and ordered to complete alcohol treatment shortly before he was involved in this deadly crash.

Drunk motorists are some of the most dangerous drivers with whom you can share the road. They lack the refined motor skills to respond as quickly as they should to different stimuli. This is why they often run stoplights and fail to obey other rules of the road.

If you’ve lost a loved in a crash with a drunk driver, you may want to reach out to an attorney who can advise you of your right to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
