Bullying has been getting a lot of attention in the media during the past few years. One of the reasons for this is that an increasing number of victims have been turning to abusing drugs or alcohol, have developed mental health issues or have taken their lives because of it.

Research shows that children who are bullied have difficulty adhering to a set eating or sleeping plan. They also tend to lose interest in activities that they once enjoyed, become sad or depressed and develop feelings of loneliness. They may also have more anxiety than others. All of these mental health concerns can affect a person’s physical health as well.

Unless these feelings are dealt with soon after their onset when the victim is a child, there’s a strong chance that they’ll continue to experience these same emotions as an adult. Their physical health ailments may also persist.

In addition to mental and physical health concerns, individuals who are bullied may also struggle with their school work. They may not be as engaged as other students in the classroom and have lower standardized test scores and grade point averages (GPAs). Kids who are bullied may also miss more school days and even drop out at higher percentages than those who are not.

As a parent, the best thing that you can do for your child that’s being bullied is to take the necessary steps to get it to stop right away. If their school seems unwilling to take the matter seriously and prevent it, then a Waco child injury attorney can advise you of what laws are in place to protect your son or daughter now.
