A 63-year-old woman, who was known by thousands as a beloved kindergarten teacher and master baker, died in a car accident earlier this month. The woman’s vehicle crashed into another car that contained multiple teenagers
According to a report issued by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the car with the teenagers in it was a Kia being driven by a 17-year-old. The teacher’s car was also a Kia. The teens were driving southwest along U.S. 67 and the woman was driving northwest. The teenage driver tried to make a left turn across opposing traffic onto County Road 1119, but failed to see the teacher and they collided head-on.
The occupants of the vehicle with the teenagers need to be flown by helicopter to Fort Worth hospital. Their conditions ranged from serious to critical. The teacher succumbed to her injuries at the hospital not long after the crash.
Having retired in 2010, the 63-year-old kindergarten teacher continued to work for the school district in a substitute teacher capacity. She also owned a pie bakery with some other teachers. The bakery was said to have the best pies in Texas. She regularly shared her pie creations with her kindergarten students while she was substituting. A close friend and neighbor described her as a “wonderful and sweet person.”
Texas car accidents rip holes in our communities, and the sad part is that most of them could have been avoided if the at-fault party had acted more responsibly and attentively.
